Notary Terms Defined Taking Acknowledgements This is the notarial act most people think of as "notarizing a signature." Documents typically requiring an acknowledgment include deeds, mortgages, contracts, and powers of attorney. Administering Oaths An oath or affirmation is administered to a document signer when the signer is required to make a sworn statement about certain facts. Sworn statements are commonly used in affidavits, depositions, and applications. Hospital Notarizations Many times people who are hospitalized must complete documents which require notarization, but of course can not make it out to a notary. We will come to a patient's bed side to accomplish notarization. Loan Signings A Mobile Notary often serves as loan signing agent for mortgage closings and similar loan signings. The notary reviews the paperwork with the buyers, obtains all necessary signatures and initials, notarizes documents requiring such, and makes sure the documents are submitted properly.
